CheapCaribbean.com 50 Sands – Production design

We sold through a video concept to run in movie theaters before the premiere of 50 Shades of Grey. Great! The concept takes place on resort, but the client says we can’t afford to send the crew to Mexico due to budget constraints. Not great. Let’s use green screen and utilize the plates we shot last winter for broadcast. Break out the straight edge and the circular saw, we have some sets to build!

Started with some simple sketches to get the idea and rough dimensions down.
Since we were utilizing green screen, my plan was to create as much practical production environment as possible to conceal the post effects.

Math was never my strong suit, but after going over my numbers and securing building materials I got started with the build.
(Pro tip: a Honda Odyssey can fit 4x8’ plywood flat and no one will ever think to ask you, “Hey, can I borrow your minivan? I’ve got a couch to move…”)
